Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy

Big Tree Night is committed to acting honestly, fairly and with integrity in everything we do. We do not tolerate bribery, corruption, kickbacks or any other improper attempt to influence a decision.

This policy applies to members of the Big Tree Night Committee, volunteers and anyone acting on behalf of Big Tree Night.

1. Bribery and Corruption

Bribery means offering, giving, requesting or accepting something of value in order to improperly influence a decision or obtain an advantage.

Corruption is the misuse of a position, responsibility or authority for personal or private gain.

Big Tree Night complies with the Bribery Act 2010 and other applicable UK law.

2. What We Will Not Accept

Anyone acting on behalf of Big Tree Night must not:

• Offer, promise or give a bribe.
• Request or accept a bribe.
• Offer or accept gifts, hospitality or other benefits where they are intended to improperly influence a decision.
• Make or accept unofficial payments, kickbacks or similar arrangements.
• Use their position within Big Tree Night for improper personal gain.
• Ask or encourage somebody else to do anything that would breach this policy.
• Disadvantage or retaliate against anyone who raises a genuine concern about bribery or corruption.

3. Gifts and Hospitality

Reasonable and proportionate gifts or hospitality may sometimes be appropriate, provided that they are given openly, are not intended to influence a decision and could not reasonably be considered a bribe.

If there is any doubt about whether a gift or hospitality is appropriate, it should be referred to the Big Tree Night Committee before it is accepted or offered.

4. Suppliers, Sponsors and Other Organisations

Big Tree Night works with local businesses, suppliers, sponsors, stallholders, community organisations and other third parties.

Decisions involving these organisations should be made fairly and in the best interests of Big Tree Night. Personal relationships, gifts or other benefits must not improperly influence those decisions.

5. Donations and Sponsorship

Big Tree Night may receive donations and sponsorship to support the event. Donations and sponsorship must be genuine, lawful and must not be offered or accepted in return for an improper advantage or influence over a decision.

Big Tree Night does not make donations or contributions to political parties or political campaigns.

6. Conflicts of Interest

Committee members and volunteers should declare any personal, financial or other interest that could affect, or appear to affect, their impartiality when making decisions on behalf of Big Tree Night.

Where appropriate, the person concerned should take no part in the relevant decision.

7. Raising a Concern

Anyone who has a genuine concern about possible bribery, corruption or other improper conduct connected with Big Tree Night is encouraged to raise it as soon as possible.

Concerns can be sent in confidence to treasurer at bigtreenight.uk.

Nobody will be treated unfairly for raising a genuine concern in good faith.

8. Breaches of This Policy

Any suspected breach of this policy will be taken seriously and considered by the Big Tree Night Committee.

Where necessary, Big Tree Night may end its relationship with a volunteer, supplier, sponsor or other person or organisation involved, and serious matters may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

9. Review of This Policy

The Big Tree Night Committee will review this policy from time to time and update it where necessary.
